After my father died shortly before Margaret was born the Wilks family business purchased a large house in Newton, Swansea. It was shared by two sections of the family. Initially Margaret, her brother Robert and Joan, their mother lived downstairs, whilst Joan's sister and brother-in law (Alan and Anne Millichip) and their daughter Frances lived upstairs. It was only when Alan and Anne moved to Wolverhampton for a couple of years that Margaret and her family occupied the top floor commanding views towards Underhill Park, a large Park set in Mumbles. It was a big house and reputed to have a small reservoir under it that was used as a source of water for folk in the village during World War 2. The house was leasehold and when it had to be sold it did not realise a very high price. Robert, Margaret and Frances used to play together in and around the house that had a large garden.
