Life at Pentyla Road

After the family business that the Wilks family owned in Swansea started to get run down. Joan moved from a large family house in Newton, Swansea to a smaller house on Townhill where Robert and Margaret's mother had been offered a job as Secretary to the Principal of the then Swansea Training College. The house became a meeting place for the rest of the family on certain days of the week as Joan's mother had recently died. Joan after finishing work would sometimes cook a meal for her brother Peter, an architect and her father, Arthur who was not far off retirement. Occasionally there would be others at the house such as Pat her sister and Penry, Pat's husband. I have many pleasant memories of that house where my mother took in students as well as working full time in order to make ends meet. My mother, Joan, was a hard working lovely lady who provided us with a lovely place to live in the absence of my father who died shortly before Margaret was born.
